400ex making a ticking sound or cluncking when comes to a stop?

My 2003 400ex ticks...sounds like its coming from the motor and when it comes to a sudden stop it makes a clanking weird noise, i know a good amount of motors, i think its just the oil but i would like some advice from mechanics and or experts, before i go spend money on an oil filter and oil
